The inevitable retirement the NFL and the Packers knew was coming. Farve goes out with grace and class. Now as teams prepare for their training camps, Farve is suddenly having second thoughts? I wonder if the future hall of famer got himself sucked up in the silly speculation by some sports writer and his fantasy?

Are you trying to join Ted Thompson's country club or something?

Get the facts straight before you go calling Favre a bonehead, and don't believe everything Thompson is saying, cause he's trying to stop the people in Green Bay from eating him alive!

Favre came to the Packers and talked about how he had decided he wasn't quite done yet. The Packers told him that in March he had said "he wasn't feeling 100% about football", to which Favre replied that'd been the way he felt for the last 7 or 8 years in March.

So the Packers tell them that he was more than welcome to come back and joing the team......oh but you're going to be the permanent backup to Aaron Rodgers (or until he gets hurt....which will happen by Week 5).

So Favre, who last year was selected to the Pro Bowl, decides he's not doing the backup thing, and figures if the Packers don't want his services anymore (their logic behind that completely escapes me), then he asks to be released so he can go play for somebody who wants his services.

But NO, we don't want to, it's either retire or be a clip-board holding stooge! Nice way to treat a guy who bailed Green Bay out by not bolting for a better team or better money 6 years ago when the Packers were a joke!

I don't know why Thompson and/or McCarthy would want to start Rodgers over Favre. Favre is still one of the top 5 QB's in the NFL (don't believe me check the stats from '07). Rodgers had one game against Dallas....that's it! That'd be like the Colts benching Manning for Jim Sorgi, or maybe Brady being benched for Matt Cassel.

Either way if the Packers DON'T want him as their #1 QB (why they don't? Who knows?) but if they don't at least show the guy some shred of respect and let him go play for somebody else. You don't want him to go to Chicago or Minnesota? Fine, then trade him to Denver, KC, Miami, Jacksonville, Washington...whoever! A guy like Favre, despite his age, would have big value, especially for teams like Washington or Denver who are probably one good QB away from making a serious run at a Super Bowl.

The only one looking dumb is Thompson. Every other team outside of Indy and New England would kill to have a QB with Favre's skill.

The Packers organization is losing fans here because they're basically forcing Brett to not play. They don't want him to be the starter, they don't want to release him and they don't want to trade him, so wtf is Favre supposed to do? And by no means should a hall of fame QB that threw for 4,000 yards last year be a backup.

I've been trying to keep up on the Packers fan forum...but forget it lol! I thought Bomber fans were in a nasty mood, we all look like we're having a picnic compared to what's going on in Packer Nation...yikes! It's UGLY, fans calling each other out, some fans pledging loyalty to Thompson and bashing Favre, and vice-versa! Whoever thought you'd see the day PACKER fans were bashing FAVRE???

Anyway, I don't get what Thompson's angle is here, except that it's an ego thing? Aaron Rodgers has spent more time on the injured list in his two seasons than Favre has in 16 seasons!!! So let's assume Favre is NOT in Green Bay next season.....AND Rodgers gets injured. The ONLY backups they have in Green Bay are the two rookies they drafted this year. So much for 13-3 again huh?

The other thing is that the Packers are community owned, and it's sounding like shareholders are talking about possibly taking action, which would just add more drama to this whole situation.

But with Packer Nation split on this thing.......what happens when Rodgers throws his first interception? What happens when Rodgers misses his first pass to lose a game? WHAT IF, Rodgers loses the home opener to the VIKINGS in LAMBEAU???

Favre as a backup is a deathwish. If McCarthy did that he'd be INTENTIONALLY creating the BIGGEST quarterback controversy in the history of the NFL! (if you know of a bigger one let me know?)

Not at all. But I'm wondering about what's going on between you and Farve? Laughing

The FACT is dude Farve retired, the Packers have decided to go with Rodgers and now Farve is whining and pining for his job back. Gees what's impact of this on Rodgers? Screw Farve, he made his bed and now he's gotta lay in it. To borrow from a golden oldie, flip-flopping Farve doesn't care when he cries.

Fact: Farve retired. Time for him to let go of past glories.

Did they or is that Farve's version of the facts?

He retired like he used to throw int's...too frickin' indecisive. Can't have sucess with a QB now incapable of making up his mind. Gees what happens when Farve wants to flip-flop again? "Oh all of the mental anguish is back, I can't get myself up for games anymore, I want to retire again."

A **** nice way for Farve to treat a him that took a BIG chance on him when they got from the Falcons and treated him extremely well for a good long time. "Oh, they have a new QB, I'm going to unretire and meddle with the Packers' plans."

Yah Rodgers is still unproven. He's been toiling away readying himself to become the team's new starting QB while everyone his still warped into their silly hero worship of the "infalliable Farve." Rodgers could be the next Rex Grossman or he could be the next Brett Farve.

How about Farve showing some respect? Gees don't yah respect is a two way street and unbashed hero worship is nothing more than going the wrong way on a one way street?

Farve has the SELFISH nerve to screw around with a team's plans and that's a team that treated him like gold. Gees thanks Farve, thanks for really thinking of ONLY YOURSELF.

And to quote Oscar LeRoy about Farve, "Jackass!"

Well it's really up to Ted Thompson, do you want to win now or win later? With Rodgers, they'll win...but it won't be this season. With Favre, they can win now!

The other thing is now McCarthy says regardless of whether Favre comes to camp or not, it won't change anything, Rodgers is the starter and that's final, and nothing will change his mind!

So what McCarthy is saying is that we don't care if Favre comes back, we don't care if he proves he's the better QB this season, we're going to intentionally go with the second best guy. See here's where Green Bay's dilemma begins. It'd be one thing if McCarthy said....."hey we'll take the best QB in camp, if it's Favre, he'll be our #1, if it's Rodgers, he'll be our #1", you end any debate right there.

Two guys go out, battle for the spot, the winner takes it and loser shuts up. But if McCarthy will stick to this "it's Aaron regardless of what he does or Favre does" mentality, it'll split the locker room. If the team sees Favre outplaying Rodgers in training camp, but Rodgers still is named #1, what message does that send? And what happens if Rodgers drops the first two games, 0-2. All the players have seen Favre throw better than Rodgers in camp, but the coach refuses to make a switch saying "he's committed to Rodgers", well then some might ask the question at that point "are you committed to Rodgers....or winning?"

I think they should let Rodgers and Favre settle this in TC. If Rodgers is head and shoulders above Favre.......then it should be no problem for Rodgers right? If Favre proves he's still the best guy throwing the ball in Green Bay.....then so be it! You put the best QB in, regardless of the number on the jersey. If Favre can't outplay Rodgers, than fine, sit him. But to put out a blanket statement saying "we don't care, Rodgers is our guy no matter what"......you're asking for trouble if things go south.

Imagine if this week Berry came out and said "we are going with Glenn no matter what!". Even though we all saw Dinwiddie light up Calgary for 450 yards and 0 interceptions. Even though Diniwiddie won us the only game. The backlash from Bomber fans would make anything going on in Wisconsin look tame!!!

All I'm saying is let them decide who's the #1 and #2. Besides.....we all know Rodgers can't last an entire season. The guy has spent more time on the Injured List in 3 seasons as a backup than Favre has in 16 seasons as a starter!

There is no WAY he becomes a Viking unless he gets his release, and he won't get his release so it's not much going to matter.

If anything he's going to be a Buccanneer

Ya only way Brett goes to Minny is through the release (doubt it) or gets traded to another team, who then trades him to Minnesota. But I could see the Packers and whoever maybe having some sorta clause that he can't be traded back to the NFC north, if possible.

IF he gets traded, maybe TB yeah, or the Jets is what I am hearing. Unless the Vikes offer a fair amount for him, I can't see the Pack trading within the division.

Just heard on NFL Network last night that IF the Vikings gave the Packers a big enough offer....they'd have to consider it seeing as the longer this goes, the less and less the Bucs and Jets interest gets.

What's the joke?
-player decides to retire
-team moves on without him by preparing a new starter & drafting a new backup
-retired player decides to come back
-team doesn't really have room for him
-he therefore asks to be traded
-team doesn't get offers that they feel are beneficial enough (yet)
-team doesn't want him to compete for starting job at TC, so he asks to be released to someone who will
-cutting him would be even less beneficial to the team
-we are at a standstill

Face it, if Green Bay didn't think Farve was good enough, they'd have no problem dealing him away (or cutting him), and so if he's still good, then he logically should be able to compete for a job with the team. If the team doesn't want him, and half the league does, then just get a deal done. If you don't like the deals on the table, then just keep him on the bench, but don't be surprised if everyone around the league thinks you're dumb for keeping a top QB & HOFer on the bench.

Yeah you were right, but anyways this is a lil far fetched but since the JETS cant trade him back into the divison what if they traded him somewhere and THEY traded him to minny?
