Kind of a surprise if that's the case.

I don't think so. From what the guys on the other site who go to practices were saying he was getting 0 reps at lb. It never seemed like the coaches were very high on him.

My concern is that he was brought back for his special team prowness and we have just lost Gallant for 9 games, why would you get rid of a ST demon at this time.
Granted, I'm also thinking that a one dimendional import player probably doesn't bode well for him either...

...and on here we had comments on what a difference he had made to special teams. Would they be hoping to get Ryan ? Someone mentioned this as a move they might make roster wise. Does it help ?

There must be more to this. Why bring in a guy for 2 games? Pretty stupid release seeing as Gallant is gone for pretty much the rest of the season. Hope our special teams doesnt fall back into the dumper.

I don't think it is to make space for Ryan, since Ryan hasn't been released yet.

I think it is simply a question of not being able to use a DI spot on a one-dimensional player. An import has to be able to do more than just special teams, he has to at least back up a starter. If they felt they got more from Courtney Smith in terms of LB reps, then they would rather have him in the line up.

Another theory, if Suber is ready, they would normally have to put either Donald Brown or Clint Kent on reserve, and maybe they want to keep both active. Brown was doing some returning last game, and maybe he also is good in ST coverage?

That sounds right to me. Lapo sounded very happy with the play of both of those guys, singling out their ST's play especially. Brown has also been pretty good on kickoff returns.

It doesn't sound like M. Bowman will be playing this week so we could have those 2 guys plus Serna as our DI's.

so who backs up Courtney Smith if M.Bowman isn't good to go? I would have thought that Doggett gave us the flexibility to back up our entire LB core?

My question exactly

Quote:
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have released import linebacker Derrick Doggett today.

"With the injury to Marcellus Bowman, we were forced to go with players who have more experience in our system at the linebacker position. We thank Derrick for his hard work and great effort during his time as a Winnipeg Blue Bomber," said Vice-President and General Manager of Football Operations Joe Mack.

Doggett had one special teams tackle in two games this season with the Blue Bombers.

We will have more on this story later today.

Makes them sound like there is another LB with more experience in the system coming here (already here?)

based on that announcement, it sounds like they may want to dress Hicks as the DI linebacker behind Courtney Smith. He has been on the PR since training camp, so he would have more practice time in than Doggett.

If that is the case, one of Clint Kent or D. Brown is headed to the reserve, and I am guessing it is Kent.

I think he was a pretty late edition to camp, been around longer than Dogget but not enough I think. I think the Paw might be right about hicks.

Sounds like it was strictly numbers game with Doggett and all the injuries.

I'm not saying it's true but I heard he stacked three Gatorade cups during the last game. So yeah, he had to go. Smile
