If this stadium is scaled down from what was announced, even in the slightest, I honestly give up. What a disappointment that would be. _________________ I was saying Boo-ombers...
I understand the whole it's gonna cost more than we thought thing... But shouldn't they have gone over this stuff before the ground breaking, and before they tell people that construction was going to start last week?? _________________ "You don't know how it goes down! You don't even know when it goes down! It just went down and you didn't even know!"
Or find someone else to spend their own money and GIVE them the team.
The tax payers are already bent over.. might as well get in on some Double penetration and make it something to remember.. _________________ - Sent from Mobile Device While Pooping.
Should have seen this coming with the bumbling idiots we have involved in this project. $115 million always seemed quite low to me for a new stadium. Theres always some kind of b.s. in this city when it comes to building anything over $100 bucks. God i hope it doesnt get scaled back. _________________ Glenn still sucks

This is the same bait and switch that always seems to happen with these types of projects. The same steps are usually followed.
1. Propose shiny new infrastructure at seemingly affordable costs.
2. Reassure the public that all the funding sources are figured out.
3. Public jumps on board.
4. Announce rising costs due to unforeseen [labour shortage | concrete prices | unseasonably cold weather in Madagascar].
5. Seek out aid in the form of public money and/or scale back the project.
6. This either leaves the public on the hook or 'just happy it got built' at a lower quality than promised.
Of course truly unforeseen cost overruns can occur in a project this big. You would hope, however, that most things would be planned for with some type of contingency funding plan in place from the get go to cover predictably rising costs.
At worst it's an intentional bait and switch. At best it's sub-par planning.
I sincerely hope the media just jumped on this too soon and the tenders will be straightened out.
I said long ago that there was no way this thing gets built for $115 million. Many people jumped down my throat for being negative about an awesome new stadium. Now it's clear that I was right and there are two options:
1) go over the $115 million and do it right; or
2) stay at $115 million and scale down what is already a scaled-down project.
Either way, Asper and others clearly misrepresented the fact that there was a final deal in place and that everything was ready to go. Why hold a sod-turning ceremony when tenders haven't even gone out yet and the agreement isn't finalized, unless of course you just want to get some good PR?
Why do I have a bad feeling that this project, if it even happens, will take way longer than anyone expected?

Blue Bomber games after the 2011 season will be played on pasture land north of Headingly to fall in line with David Asper's budget. Headingly gaol guards will be supplied with tasers to keep Winnipeg fans in line.
I have been 100% behind Asper. But we will be the laughing stock of the sports world if we build a half-assed stadium because all these millionaires can't decide who's footing the bill.
The Premier should sit Asper down and simply tell him "You build a world-class facility. If you can't, tell us now and you're out." And then let the Premier and the Bombers work on a new plan to build a first rate facility at that location without him. _________________ Quite frankly, Glenn's balls looked terrific.

david, david, david. where to begin? well, for starters, you're such a pretender.

I second that.
And besides, shouldn't they have foreseen potential cost or higher tender prices when they made the big flashy announcement that it was a done deal? If Creswin is really earning its money as general contractor, shouldn't it have known that $115 million was just a pipe dream and made that clear to everyone?
It seems to me that Asper really has no clue what he's doing. The government is trying to make this thing happen but there comes a point where it's going to say enough is enough. The Bombers are the victim flying in the wind.
If Asper can't do this properly and won't put his money where his mouth is, then he should be out and have no chance to ever own and ruin our team.
