It's official.....Bomber security has run amok.
My family and I have been Bomber season ticket holders for the last 49 years. We purchased season tickets in Row 8 (West side) in order to:
(1) sit behind the Bomber bench ( It's really cool getting "into" the game that way. There's NOTHING like hearing the bench in a game!)
(2) being up against the yellow railing, we didn't have to disturb those next to us when we wanted to leave our seats to get a beer or pee. (Not as if there is ANY room anyway, our knees are up against the next row of seats.)
(3) Up until very recently, it allowed for easy end of game escape in the 4th quarter, if and when our team stank. ( I've been there for 49 years and have seen it ALL.)
The vast majority of people sitting in this row have been season ticket holders for DECADES and bought tickets FOR THOSE VERY REASONS.
I have no idea what prompted the idea of preventing people from exiting thru or over the yellow railings behind the seats...but give a couple of guys an orange security shirt and you now have the equivalent of the Bomber Gestapo.Warnings, threats, harassment....just for taking a quick way out.
The only reason I can see for this is that a Bomber lawyer must have given the team notice that if someone broke a hip or was injured exiting this way...the team could be sued. There seems no other viable explanation for this idiotic, paternalistic, fascist behavior.
Bomber President, Mr. Bell...give your head a shake will ya? How many games do we have left to play in this stadium? How many injuries have occurred from this practice? Are you willing to pay for the Prostate medicine (or Depends Diapers) that will be necessary for many of these older ticket holders who must disturb a whole row of people ( many times DURING a play)?
Cmon, let's get some common sense here. Why piss off people like me and other loyal Bomber fans? Its maybe a year or two before we get a new stadium. Just leave things as they are and get rid of the stupid nanny security types. You MUST have better things to do than to roust someone for sneaking thru a railing.
ROW 8 RAIL REBELS UNITE!!!!
I call on all those in Row 8 West Side to all exit the rail at the same time next game for a beer! The orange shirts can't catch us all!
And Jim Bell... Concentrate more on bringing us the Grey Cup and less on stupid things that only serve to alienate loyal fan base. |

As someone who has always tried to sit in Row 9 of the east side upper deck for this purpose, I am disturbed by this, too. This kind of micromanaging will turn the football experience in Winnipeg into what it is here in Edmonton...a complete snooze. I get the re-entry th ing and the booze-related directives, as they are clearly trying to create a more family atmosphere in the stadium, but stuff like this just reeks of heavyhandedness and is unnecessary. _________________ Watching Milt score a 100 yard TD to beat the EE (Evil Empire) is THE football highlight of all time! |

Heh, I'm a row 8er. East side. Behind the opposition bench. I'm too lazy to try climbing over the rail. My friends/seatmates do though. It does make for quick access. However, a seat neighbour, all 350-400 lbs attempted that stunt and damned near fell on top of me. I don't much care to have this dude landing on me. That said his girth also overlapped in my seat making me very uncomfortable all game. I've never seen him before so I don't expect to see him again. _________________ You can agree with me or you can be wrong...

I believe somebody fell out of the stadium thru some railings and died is what prompted it. |

If someone were to fall through these railings the most damage they could do is land on me. Heh heh... If they fall the other way maybe a deep bruise? _________________ You can agree with me or you can be wrong... |

OK. Point taken. If you are 25 rows up and climb OVER a railing and fall 40 feet off the grandstands to your death....that's a problem.
Preventing people from climbing over/thru a railing to get to a cement walkway, behind them at seat level....that's just plain stupid.
You had to see the incredulous looks on 30 + year season tickets holder's faces when some snot nosed kid with a "Security" shirt and an earpiece threatened them with ejection from the stadium.
Yeah, that's EXACTLY the kind of person you want to piss off/eject....someone who has supported team as far back as the Zaleski years.
NOT smart, and I wrote Jim Bell to tell him so. |

After 49 years of having my *** in the same purchased seat.....I think I've earned that right.
And you've had season tickets for ...how long?
A successful "football" club is not just about on field performance. Its about the business of football, the game day experience and satisfying those who buy the tickets.
I told PLap the first day he was available to the public : "Coach, I don't mind losing to a better team. I just want a professional product that entertains me and is run in a competent manner. I realize the talent mix will take time but just don't insult me as a fan and make my Bomber experience a positive one- regardless of the outcome."
If some people understood that better in the past, maybe, just maybe the Bombers would have better support and we would have hoisted the cup more often. |

I didn't think so last year during the kelly circus. And this year I think the Bombers have made several mistakes off the field. The Bombers have made enormous strides on the field. Let's just say there is plenty of room for improvement off the field. _________________ You can agree with me or you can be wrong... |
